Baringo County Government Launches Investigations Into Alleged Negligence in Two Patient Deaths at the County Referral Hospital.

Kabarnet, July 29, 2026: Baringo County Government has launched investigations into allegations that two patients referred to Baringo County Referral Hospital (BCRH) died due to negligence, even as preliminary findings indicate that both patients received appropriate medical care.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday afternoon, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health Dr. Solomon Sirma said the Department of Health began investigations immediately after the allegations emerged. The two patients had been referred from Chemalingot Sub-County Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital in Tangulbei.

Dr. Sirma noted that the department had retrieved records on the medical procedures and treatment interventions undertaken and interviewed staff involved in the patients' care.

"Preliminary reports indicate that the two patients were attended to with utmost care and professionalism," he said, while adding that investigations are still ongoing.

Meanwhile, the County Government has appealed to members of the public who may have interacted with the deceased patients and possess relevant information to report to the Medical Superintendent at Baringo County Referral Hospital in Kabarnet to aid the investigations.

The Health Department is also investigating the authenticity of photographs circulated online on July 22, 2026, allegedly depicting one of the deceased, a student from Nginyang' Girls. Dr. Sirma warned that legal action would be taken if it is established that the images were published in violation of the Data Protection Act, 2019.

"We promise to share the findings of the report, taking into cognizant the requirements of the law on privacy," he stated.

Dr. Sirma conveyed his condolences, and those of the county's medical team, to the families and relatives of the deceased, reiterating that the Department of Health remains committed to providing responsive healthcare services and that any loss of life is deeply regrettable.
